Not even two years after breaking ground and ahead of their projected schedule, Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) officially began production the week of October 1. The first electric vehicle to roll off the assembly line was an IONIQ 5, one of several models of Hyundai, Genesis and Kia vehicles that will be produced at the Bryan County facility.
“More than two years of hard work and collaboration came to fruition this week with the start of production at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America,” said Trip Tollison with the Savannah Economic Development Authority. “It is an exciting time for our region and our partners.”
HMGMA’s American-made electric vehicles will land at U.S. dealerships before the end of the year.
The $7.59 billion manufacturing facility and affiliate LG Energy Solution will employ roughly 8,500 individuals at the site in Bryan County. The plant’s vehicle production areas have completed construction and are staffed by more than 1,000 metapros.
In celebration of the milestone and the metapros’ incredible work, an employee-focused event was held on site.
